Dancers in the Performing Arts Program must have the required dancewear. Recreational dancers should come with appropriate shoes and look ready to dance (NO STREET CLOTHES ALLOWED). Adult/professional dancers may use this as a guideline, but need not adhere exactly to the dress code. STREET SHOES ARE NEVER ALLOWED IN DANCE STUDIO SPACES! NO EXCEPTIONS!!
Creative Dance: Creative Dancers should wear pink leather ballet shoes, and any color leotard and tights. Boys should wear black leather ballet shoes, sweats and a t-shirt.
Ballet: All ballet levels are required to wear pink ballet shoes, pink tights and a black leotard. Fundamental and Level I students should wear full soled, pink leather ballet shoes. Students in Level II and above need pink, split sole, leather ballet shoes. No turtlenecks. No skirts. Tight-fitting leg warmers or tight-fitting sweaters are allowed if room temperature is cool. Hair must be up, if length permits, and/or out of your face. No jewelry. Boys may wear close-fitting t-shirts, black shorts, sweats or cotton/lycra dance pants, and black ballet shoes.
Jazz: Jazz students may wear jazz pants or leggings and a leotard or bra top. No shorts, please, as we do lots of floor work and long pants will protect your legs and enable you to do more on the floor. Please wear black, split sole jazz shoes. T-shirts must be tighter fitting or tied at the waist. No baggy t-shirts allowed. No jeans. No gauchos. Hair must be up, out of your face. No jewelry. Boys may wear t-shirts and sweats.
Tap: All tap dancers must have a black leotard and black cotton/lycra jazz pants (like yoga pants). Boys must have black cotton/lycra dance pants, but may wear close fitting t-shirts and black shorts, sweats or cotton/lycra dance pants. Girls may wear tight fitting t-shirts or tanks may be worn, but please dress in layers as you may want to take off some of the layers once you warm up. Fundamental and Level I students need matte black tap shoes with a buckle. Students Level II and III need black tap oxfords. Level IV and higher need to order special shoes; please speak to Ann.
Hair should be worn out of your face. No jewelry. No jeans.
Modern: Modern dancers may wear sweats, dance pants, leotard, tights and t-shirts, but please dress in layers as you may want to take some of the layers off once you warm up. No jewelry. No gauchos. No jeans. No shoes required.
Hip Hop: Hip hop dancers may any loose fitting clothing that they can move in. Please wear tennis shoes that aren’t worn outside. These shoes must be reserved for dance class. NO STREET SHOES ALLOWED IN STUDIO SPACES. Hip Hop does have a great deal of floorwork as part of the class. Therefore, knee pads are required. They should be brought to every class, but may not be used every class. No jewelry.
